Pagination

The pagination of Nicholas: A Manhattan Christmas Story is interesting in that it varies according to the page layout. The pagination of the book begins on the table of contents page starting with roman numerals centered at the bottom of the page (see Figure 50).

The illustration table of contents and the frontispiece are also both paginated with a roman numerals centered at the bottom of the page. Just after the frontispiece, the second title page displays the first Arabic page number, one, also centered at the bottom of the page (see Figure 51).

Within the main part of the book, pages housing the text of the story are paginated in the top left or right outside corner in Arabic numerals done in the same font size as the text of the story (see Figure 52).

However, on pages that only bear illustrations, the page number is centered below the illustration, near the very bottom of the page, and is a much smaller font size (see Figure 53).

The same goes for the beginning page of each chapter; again, the page number is centered at the bottom of the page (this time underneath the text) and is a much smaller font size than the normal text of the story (see Figure 54).
